Many countries are in the midst of a medical emergency because of the worldwide rise in violence, war, and social unrest. Health care institutions are being demolished, and those that remain open are struggling due to a lack of resources. We have seen an alarming rise in both morbidity and death in the communities we serve as a direct result of the shortage of health care resources, which has allowed previously avoidable diseases to spread.
